Bangladesh Threats to Northeast Expose BJP’s Foreign Policy Failure: MPCC Chief Vincent Pala

Historically friendly nations like Russia and China are "distancing" themselves from India amid shifting global strategic alignments: Pala

SHILLONG: In a blistering attack on the ruling dispensation, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Vincent H. Pala has labeled the recent security threats from Bangladesh toward Northeast India as a “monumental failure” of the BJP-led Central Government’s foreign policy.

Speaking to the press, the veteran Congress leader argued that India’s diplomatic standing is crumbling under the current administration, not just with Bangladesh, but across the entire neighbourhood.

Pala claimed that the BJP has managed to alienate long-standing allies. According to the MPCC Chief, the government’s policy blunders have extended to the immediate neighbours, adding that relations with Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Nepal have soured.

He further stated that historically friendly nations like Russia and China are reportedly distancing themselves from India due to current shifts in international strategy.

“The BJP is too obsessed with the ‘Hindu-Muslim’ narrative,” Pala remarked. “This internal fixation is severely damaging India’s reputation on the global stage.”

Pala further highlighted what he calls a “glaring hypocrisy” in the government’s response to communal issues. He pointed out that while the government reacts vehemently to any incident involving Hindus in Bangladesh, it remains largely silent on the harassment of Christians within India, specifically citing incidents that occurred during the Christmas season.

Turning his sights closer to home, Pala launched a scathing critique of the NPP-led State Government in Meghalaya. He dismissed the state’s efforts to address border security as mere “posturing.”

Pala claimed the NPP is nothing more than a “sidekick” to the BJP’s agenda. “The policy of the BJP and the NPP is one and the same. They make threats and write letters, but they achieve nothing. When they eat from the same plate and sleep in the same house, how can they ever stand up to one another?”‘

Meanwhile, the MPCC President warned that this diplomatic and administrative vacuum is creating a dangerous playground for militant groups. He cautioned that if groups like ULFA and HNLC regain their former strength, the common citizens will be the ones to suffer.

Drawing a grim parallel to Assam’s past—where militancy led to severe financial crises—Pala linked terrorism directly to corruption. He urged the public to remain vigilant, stating that unless the government puts an end to systemic corruption, peace in the border regions will remain a distant dream.
