SHILLONG: Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Thursday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to make significant gains in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, predicting that the party could secure eight to ten seats.
The statement has added momentum to the political discourse ahead of the district council polls, particularly in Garo Hills, a region where the BJP has traditionally faced stiff competition from regional parties.
Speaking to reporters, Shullai said there is a growing appetite for change among the people of Garo Hills, driven by what he described as the development-oriented governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“In the last 10 years of BJP-led governance at the Centre, the country has witnessed unprecedented development compared to the previous decades. The people of Garo Hills have observed these changes and believe that the BJP is best placed to address their long-standing aspirations,” Shullai said.
Shullai confirmed that the BJP has already initiated the process of inviting applications from prospective candidates for the GHADC polls. He said the exercise aims to identify capable and credible candidates with a strong public service background. He added that field committed leaders who can effectively represent local interests and build a competitive and disciplined team capable of challenging established political forces.
While the Meghalaya BJP President is overseeing the party’s election strategy, Shullai announced that he will personally campaign across Garo Hills to strengthen the party’s organisational presence.
“As an MLA and senior party leader, I will be touring Garo Hills extensively, interacting directly with people at the grassroots level to energise our workers and support our candidates,” he said.
