BJP Reiterates Zero-Tolerance Policy Regarding Illegal Immigration

The State BJP leadership has urged the Central Government to intervene and put in place comprehensive

SHILLONG: Against the backdrop of escalating demands for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced that it has formally approached the Central Government to demand significantly stronger safeguards to curb illegal infiltration.

Reaffirming its firm commitment to the region’s demographic security, the saffron party reiterated its zero-tolerance policy regarding any form of illegal immigration into the hill state.

Speaking on the party’s proactive stance, Meghalaya BJP president Rikman G. Momin stated that the state leadership has already apprised the Centre of the pressing necessity to introduce a highly effective mechanism designed specifically to check and halt illegal infiltration across the state’s borders. Momin emphasized that safeguarding the state from unregulated influx remains a top priority for the party.

According to Momin, the State BJP leadership has urged the Central Government to intervene and put in place comprehensive, appropriate measures that can strictly regulate and monitor any unauthorized or illegal entry into Meghalaya.

By taking up the matter directly with New Delhi, the state unit aims to address the growing public anxiety surrounding immigration while pushing for institutional mechanisms that align with the local sentiments and long-standing demands of the indigenous population.
