SHILLONG: In a significant move to promote and celebrate academic excellence, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday felicitated 40 meritorious students from the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills who secured top positions in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations.
The students were awarded cash incentives under the newly introduced Chief Minister’s Special Grant—an initiative aimed at providing tangible recognition to young achievers and encouraging a culture of excellence in the state’s education system.
The felicitation ceremony, held at the CM’s residence in Polo Hills today, highlighted the government’s long-term commitment to strengthening the education sector. By rewarding academic performance, the administration seeks not only to recognise students’ hard work but also to inspire others to aim higher and compete in a healthy academic environment.
During the event, the Chief Minister personally interacted with the awardees, listening to their stories of perseverance and aspirations for the future. He described the interaction as deeply inspiring, reflecting the immense potential among Meghalaya’s youth.
Sangma emphasised that the initiative is not a one-time effort but will be institutionalised as an annual tradition. He noted that the achievements of these students demonstrate that the future of Meghalaya is in capable hands.
Encouraging the students to remain focused and continue striving for excellence, he assured them that the government will remain a strong partner in supporting their academic and professional journeys.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to build a robust educational foundation in the state. By directly investing in and motivating high-performing students, the government aims to create a ripple effect that raises overall learning standards and academic achievement across Meghalaya.
Following the felicitation of students from the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills, similar programmes are expected to be held for top achievers from other regions of the state.
