The Governor becomes the first person in Meghalaya to register himself and his family members on the portal.

SHILLONG: The Governor of Meghalaya, C.H. Vijayashankar, on Friday launched an online portal for registration under the national census, marking the formal commencement of the census exercise in the state.
The Governor completed his self-enumeration under Phase One of the Census of India 2027 at Lok Bhavan in Shillong, becoming the first person in Meghalaya to register himself and his family members on the portal while furnishing the required details. He was accompanied by officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya.
The launch programme was attended by Director of Census Operations, Meghalaya, Biswajit Pegu, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, RM Kurbah, along with other officials.
With the launch of the portal, the census process in the state has begun from May 1, 2026. The exercise will be conducted through house-to-house visits by enumerators using mobile applications, while data submitted through self-enumeration will be verified during field visits.
The entire operation will be monitored through the Census Management and Monitoring System (CNMS), which will oversee training, deployment, and real-time supervision. Geo-tagging and digital mapping tools will also be used to create enumeration blocks, ensuring comprehensive coverage without omissions.
