SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has directed the Director General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into allegations of extortion against personnel at the Byrnihat police outpost, following complaints by the Hynniewtrep Farmers’ Union (HFU).
The HFU alleged that outpost staff have been illegally collecting ₹4,000 per pickup and ₹15,000 per heavy truck transporting livestock into Meghalaya.
Speaking to the media, Sangma noted that a GPay transfer alone does not constitute conclusive proof, but said that after reviewing additional supporting documents from the HFU, he found the claims credible enough to warrant formal inquiry.

He emphasized that any disciplinary action must follow due legal process and that officers cannot be summarily removed.
Sangma assured that if the investigation confirms the allegations, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
He appealed to the public for patience as the formal investigation proceeds.
