SHILLONG: Early morning commuters faced severe delays after a 12-tyre coal-laden truck (AS 26 AC 1244) overturned in Jaiaw Langsning, crippling traffic from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM on the Mawlai–Jaiaw–Motphran route.
Police responded swiftly to tow the vehicle and clear the gridlock, though spilled coal remained at the scene.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that the accident is under investigation.
The truck has been seized, but no arrests have been made and authorities are still verifying the vehicle’s ownership and validity of its documents.
This incident is the latest in a series of coal truck overturns in Shillong, reigniting public concern over the safety of the Mawlai bridge, which continues to see heavy commercial truck traffic daily.
