NEW DELHI, March 25: A solemn memorial service was held in New Delhi on Tuesday to honour the life and legacy of late Dr. Ricky Andrew Jones Syngkon, former Member of Parliament and leader of the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP), drawing an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum.
The service, organised by the family of the late leader, took place at the Speaker Hall of the Constitution Club of India and was attended by 48 Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with family members, colleagues, and dignitaries.

Chaired by Miranda Ingudam, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, the three-hour programme reflected on Dr. Syngkon’s journey from academia to national politics. In her opening remarks, Ingudam highlighted his contributions as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers, describing him as a “scholar-turned-statesman” who dedicated his life to serving the poor and marginalised.
Family members paid heartfelt tributes, with his youngest brother Cliffton Andrew Jones Syngkon recalling his life and values. Delivering part of his speech in Khasi, he emphasised the importance of preserving the language and urged people to live purpose-driven lives rooted in service, integrity, and responsibility.

Several MPs and leaders remembered Dr. Syngkon for his humility, simplicity, and unwavering commitment to public service. Speakers noted that his passing is not only a loss to Meghalaya but to the nation as a whole, underscoring the impact he had on governance and people-centric politics.
Representing the Voice of the People’s Party, Dr. Batskhem Myrboh described Dr. Syngkon as a mentor and guiding force behind the party’s vision to “revive, restore, and transform Meghalaya.” He called on supporters to carry forward the late leader’s mission and ideals.
Emotional tributes also came from his close aides, including his private secretary Vishal Atri, who recalled the late MP’s personal involvement in addressing even the smallest concerns of citizens, reflecting his deep commitment to public service.

The service concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by his sister Dr. Wandinecia Tariang, who expressed gratitude to national leaders, including the Prime Minister, and all those who stood by the family. She noted that while Dr. Syngkon is no longer present, his legacy of humility, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire generations.
