SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who also holds the Transport portfolio, has announced that the Government will bear the entire cost of medical treatment for the two NEHU students critically injured in a recent road accident at the university campus.
Dhar visited the two young women—Daritngen Pohdukhei and Stefanie Shadap—who sustained serious injuries in the accident that occurred on November 17, 2025, near the Gate 2 of NEHU.
Speaking to the press, Dhar said, “As we have seen, a severe incident has occurred involving these two NEHU students, who met with a truly terrible accident. Their families informed us, and as part of the Government’s duty, I came to visit them.”
He informed that one of the students is currently stable and conscious, while the other remains in critical condition. “The Government has assured that it will take full financial responsibility for all medical expenses required for their treatment,” he stated.
The Deputy Chief Minister also pointed out that the Transport Department has clear provisions for dealing with reckless and negligent driving. He confirmed that the driver who rammed his vehicle into the students was arrested the same night. “There are strict legal measures for those who violate traffic laws, and the Government will enforce these seriously,” he added.
Dhar concluded by reaffirming the Government’s commitment to ensuring the best possible care for the two students. “If treatment outside the State is required, the Government will cover all related expenses,” he said.
