SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Kickboxing Association (AMKA) was felicitated by the Governor of Meghalaya, C. H. Vijayshankar, in recognition of the team’s outstanding performance at the Asia Pacific Open Kickboxing Championship 2026, held in Indonesia from February 24 to 28.
Speaking to reporters, AMKA President Samuel Hashah said that the team had earlier met the Governor before departing for Indonesia and expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support extended to them. According to Hashah, the Governor’s motivation played a significant role in inspiring the athletes to perform their best during the championship.
The Meghalaya contingent delivered an impressive performance, securing a total of five medals — two gold, two silver, and one bronze — at the international tournament.
During the interaction, the athletes also shared their experiences from the championship with the Governor. Vijayshankar congratulated the team for bringing laurels to the state and assured them of his continued support for the development of sports and athletes in Meghalaya.
As part of the felicitation ceremony, the athletes were presented with certificates, sports kits, gloves, and pads in recognition of their achievements.
