SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), today, issued a wake-up call to the Centre, warning that the instability next door poses an existential threat to Meghalaya and the entire North East.
The message of KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar was blunt: “Any collapse in the security or demographic fabric of the North Eastern frontier will trigger a domino effect across the rest of the country.”
Expressing deep concern over potential spillover from the Bangladesh crisis, Marngar emphasized that the current chaos provides a “perfect window” for illegal influx. He argued that the Government of India must stop dragging its feet and implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) immediately to safeguard the region.
“If the North East falls, the entire nation of India will crumble,” Marngar declared, asserting that protecting the borders is not just a regional issue, but a fundamental requirement for national security.
The KSU President did not hold back in his critique of current security measures.
He demanded that the Border Security Force (BSF) be heavily reinforced to ensure “zero leakage” along the international border.
He called on the State Government to move beyond rhetoric and fully enforce the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
Addressing the government’s stance on NGOs setting up checkpoints, Marngar pointed out the irony—the government labels these “illegal” while failing to provide an effective alternative to stop unauthorized entry.
Taking matters into their own hands, the KSU President has officially directed all circles and units of the union to remain “extraordinarily vigilant.” He has authorized continued inspections and “checks” to identify and deter those attempting to enter or reside in the state illegally.
“The Union will not rest until Meghalaya is shielded by strong, effective laws,” Marngar said, reiterating that the KSU remains the frontline defense for the indigenous community’s safety and peace.
