SHILLONG: In a firm show of resolve, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member Winston Tony Lyngdoh has made it clear that the Council will not be intimidated by threats allegedly issued by the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Addressing the media on Thursday, the CEM categorically stated that the KHADC has no intention of lodging an FIR or seeking additional police protection, despite warnings linked to the Council’s recent administrative reforms.

Maintaining a calm yet resolute tone, Lyngdoh said the Council’s functioning would continue uninterrupted.

“We are working on the right path. I do not see any reason for us to reach a stage where we have to approach the Government or the Police seeking extra security,” he stated.

Contrary to expectations of heightened security arrangements, the CEM clarified that the Council has chosen a policy of composure rather than confrontation. The Council has not filed any FIR and has no plan to do so; it did not seek any request for special security or armed escorts, adding that office is functioning normally, with routine schedules and movements unchanged.

Lyngdoh also pointed out that neither the Meghalaya Government nor the police department has formally reached out to the Council in connection with the alleged threat.

“There has been no offer of security from the authorities, and we are not seeking it either. We are moving forward without fear,” he added.

While ruling out panic within the Council, the KHADC leadership acknowledged that basic vigilance is being exercised within office premises as a precautionary measure.

Officials described the approach as one of watchful movement, remaining alert while ensuring that public duties are carried out without disruption.
