SHILLONG: Security personnel deployed at Ward’s Lake on Thursday apprehended a 25-year-old man after allegedly recovering a bag containing ganja from his possession while he was attempting to enter the premises.
The accused has been identified as Henjakapa, a resident of Kolasib district in Mizoram.
According to sources, the security staff became suspicious of the individual during routine checks and subsequently intercepted him. Upon inspection, a bag containing suspected ganja was recovered, weighing approximately 2.479 kilograms.
Following the incident, the guards and staff of Ward’s Lake immediately alerted the police. Acting on the information, police personnel promptly reached the spot, took custody of the accused, and seized the contraband.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized substance.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance at public places and tourist locations to curb illegal activities.
