Mawpun Golflink Residents Suffer as PHE Fails to Restore Road After Pipeline Work

The Rangbah Shnong informed that the Dorbar Shnong has issued a one-week deadline to the contractors to repair the damaged road.

SHILLONG: Residents of Mawpun Golflink are facing severe inconvenience due to prolonged road damage caused by excavation work carried out by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for the laying of water supply pipelines. The road, dug up several months ago, has yet to be restored, even as the pipeline work remains stalled for over three months.

Acting on multiple complaints from residents struggling to access their homes, members of the Seng Samla Golflink Dong Mawpun, along with the Golflink Dorbar Shnong, conducted a spot inspection of the affected stretch. The inspection revealed that the road continues to remain in a dilapidated condition, with no visible effort made to restore it after excavation.

Residents alleged that after digging up the road to lay pipelines, the PHE Department and its contractors failed to properly resurface the area, leaving behind muddy patches and loose stones. This has posed serious risks to pedestrians and commuters, particularly schoolchildren, the elderly, and daily road users.

Speaking to the media, Seng Samla Golflink Mawpun Unit President Kordor L. Nongkynrih expressed deep concern over the delay, stating that while the pipelines have already been laid, the damaged road has not been repaired, severely affecting public movement and safety.

The Seng Samla has urged the Golflink Dorbar Shnong to intervene urgently and take up the matter with higher authorities, particularly the PHE Department and the concerned contractors, to ensure the work is completed without further delay and the road restored at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Rangbah Shnong informed that the Dorbar Shnong has issued a one-week deadline to the contractors to repair the damaged road. Failure to comply, he warned, would compel the Dorbar Shnong to lodge an FIR and initiate stringent measures, including the possible removal of the water pipelines already laid.

He further stated that the Dorbar Shnong had raised the issue with the Public Works Department (PWD); however, the department clarified that responsibility for restoring the road rests with the PHE Department.
