Mohendro Rapsang Breaks Silence on BJP Rumours, Yet to Decide Political Future

While acknowledging that many supporters are urging him to join the BJP, he emphasized that no commitments have been made.

SHILLONG: Former West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang has addressed growing speculation over his political future, stating that he has not taken any final decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Amid widespread rumours of a possible shift, Rapsang clarified that he is still carefully weighing his options and will announce his next move at an appropriate time.

The veteran leader, who resigned from the National People’s Party (NPP) on February 11, 2026, described his exit as a personal and strategic decision rather than one driven by dissatisfaction with party leadership.

While acknowledging that many supporters are urging him to join the BJP, he emphasized that no commitments have been made.

Rapsang added that his immediate priority is to engage with constituents and gather feedback before deciding his political path. He also hinted at uncertainty regarding contesting the upcoming elections, noting that he is currently taking time to reassess the evolving political landscape.

A seasoned figure in Meghalaya politics, Rapsang was elected in 2018 on a Congress ticket before shifting to the NPP ahead of the 2023 elections. His recent resignation has sparked considerable public interest, though he maintains that his final decision will reflect the collective will of the people of West Shillong.
