MAWKYRWAT: The Special Judge (NDPS) Court of South West Khasi Hills District on November 11, 2025, convicted three individuals for involvement in drug trafficking and sentenced them to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each, with an additional one month of imprisonment in case they fail to pay the amount.
Those convicted have been identified as Somison Sangma (24), Gopal Barman (24), and Jewel D. Sangma (22), all hailing from Nongkriah in Mawsynram Block, East Khasi Hills District.
Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills, B. Jyrwa, informed that the trio was arrested by BSF personnel on January 19, 2024, from the Ranikor area, following the seizure of nine packets of suspected narcotic substances. The packets contained approximately 1,728 tablets, believed to be Yaba.
