SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla dismissed reports of any internal rift or infighting within the party regarding the lone Rajya Sabha MP seat from the state.
He clarified that while multiple names have surfaced for the parliamentary seat, the final decision remains entirely in the hands of the top leadership of the NPP.
Speaking to media persons, Wailad stated that every individual within the party is entitled to their own opinions and preferences regarding who should represent the state in the Upper House of Parliament.
He emphasized that having differing preferences does not equate to a rift, as it is the democratic right of all members to propose individuals they believe are competent and fit for the role.
During the discussion surrounding the emergence of multiple candidates, Wailad strongly emphasized the underlying unity of the party.
He noted that the NPP is a large and harmonious family, a sentiment previously echoed by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and other senior leaders.
Consequently, he stated that the party rank and file will collectively respect and stand by whatever final decision is taken by the high command.
When questioned about the specific contenders, the minister acknowledged that three to four names have been widely circulated in the media, but reiterated that the ultimate consensus rests with the top tier of the NPP leadership.
