SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) Meghalaya State Unit on Friday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, scheduled to be held on April 10, 2026.
The list of candidates was approved by the party’s State Election Committee and formally issued under the signature of NPP State President and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
The candidates announced in this phase include:

The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the GHADC elections, which will determine the Members of the District Council (MDCs) for the next term.
The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, plays a key role in local governance in the region. It is responsible for matters related to traditional administration, land rights, and the protection of indigenous customs and practices in Garo Hills.
With the polling date approaching, political activity across the region is gaining momentum as parties finalise their candidate lists and strengthen grassroots campaigning to secure a majority in the Council.
