Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, on November 30, exuded confidence in the National People’s Party (NPP) winning the Shillong Parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
When asked whether NPP stands a chance against a veteran politician and sitting Shillong MP Vincent Pala, Dhar said, the party has a high chance of winning the election and this is evident from the response of the electorates in the 2023 Assembly polls.
The NPP has fielded women politicians for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Shillong and Tura. Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will be representing the party from Shillong while sitting MP Agatha Sangma will be NPP’s candidate from Tura.
Reacting to a question, Dhar jokingly remarked that once NPP wins the Lok Sabha elections, it would mean a double defeat for Vincent Pala.
He lost the assembly election from Sutnga-Saipung to NPP’s Santa Mary Shylla and if Ampareen Lyngdoh wins the Lok Sabha polls, he would have lost twice to women politicians.
“But it is not really about gender; it seems people want to rid the state of Congress,” the deputy chief minister said.
