SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President and Congress candidate for the upcoming MP by-election, Vincent H. Pala, has asserted that the party’s grassroots support remains firmly intact, attributing recent setbacks to opportunistic leaders lured away by financial inducements—not a loss of public trust.
Speaking to the media, Pala outlined the party’s ongoing reorganization efforts and expressed strong confidence in Congress’s eventual resurgence across Meghalaya.
Pala explained that the party is actively working to rebuild and fortify its cadre base at every district and block level.
He noted that, once internal structures are consolidated, Congress expects to receive key updates regarding the Summary Investigation and Revision (SIR) process from District Election Officers and Commissioners, aiming to complete all related electoral procedures by October 7.
Addressing the party’s internal health, Pala emphasized that significant strides are being made to restore Congress’s foundational pillars.
He shared that, during extensive visits to villages and localities, he found that the general public still holds strong affection and deep faith in the Congress party.

According to Pala, the recent erosion of the party’s parliamentary strength was not due to voter rejection, but rather the result of self-serving politicians who defected to rival camps for financial gain.
Pala appealed to the public to critically consider the broader implications of political defections, warning that the strength and interests of the indigenous community are undermined when Congress is weakened by engineered buyouts. He urged voters to scrutinize the motives behind such defections and the sources of funding behind these political maneuvers.
Reflecting on recent high-level meetings in Delhi, Pala acknowledged that misleading and self-interested individuals have caused undeniable harm to the party structure.
Nevertheless, he expressed renewed optimism that Congress is on a firm path to reclaim a governance role and serve the people of Meghalaya in an exemplary manner.
