SHILLONG: In a breakthrough against vehicle theft, a special team from the Pasteur Beat House apprehended two alleged bike thieves from the Polo area in Shillong for their involvement in multiple motorcycle theft cases.
The accused have been identified as Cornelius Mukhim alias Bryan (20), a resident of Mawlai Mawroh, Shillong, and Meshanki Lamare (21), a resident of Sapai, Jowai.
Police sources revealed that the duo had been actively involved in stealing motorcycles from different parts of Shillong and allegedly transporting them towards the Bangladesh border.
During the operation, police recovered several tools and items believed to have been used in carrying out the thefts. These include a Taparia Torx key set, an Allen key set, two wire stripper pliers, and a screwdriver. Additionally, ₹19,500 in cash, a metal gun-shaped lighter, and two Nike sling bags were seized from their possession.
Authorities suspect that the recovered tools were used to tamper with and unlock stolen motorcycles. The arrests are expected to aid in solving multiple pending theft cases in the region.
Police confirmed that both accused will be produced before the court on the following day for further legal proceedings.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of their network and involvement in inter-state or cross-border vehicle theft operations.
