SHILLONG: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Friday joined the nationwide observance of World Environment Day by planting tree saplings at Golf Link in Shillong. This initiative reaffirms the Central Government’s commitment to environmental conservation through the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nadda, who is currently on a two-day visit to Meghalaya, participated in the plantation programme alongside four Members of Parliament (MPs). Senior BJP leader and former State Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek, Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G. Momin, and several other party functionaries were also present on the occasion.
Addressing media persons after the plantation programme, Nadda stated that this initiative reflects a democratic movement aimed at encouraging citizens to contribute toward environmental protection while simultaneously paying tribute to their mothers.
He shared that on World Environment Day, tree saplings were planted in Shillong following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.
Under this initiative, lakhs of BJP workers across the country have come forward to plant trees today. He also recalled that on June 5, 2024, PM Modi had made a global call for environmental protection, security, and sustainability.
The Union Minister highlighted that during last year’s World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign to promote global environmental protection.
This initiative urges citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, connecting personal emotions with the larger responsibility of restoring and sustaining the environment.
