VPP Chief Slams “Pathetic” Healthcare System in Meghalaya, Cites Mawiong CHC Report as Proof of Crisis

The VPP Chief outlined two non-negotiable requirements for a functioning healthcare system -- Manpower overhaul and modern equipment.

SHILLONG: Voice of the People Party (VPP) President and Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has declared that the recent report on the Mawiong CHC incident is undeniable proof of a “crumbling” healthcare system in Meghalaya.

Basaiawmoit used the government’s own findings to highlight a systemic failure that has left citizens vulnerable.

He clarified that his grievance isn’t with specific staff members, but with the gross mismanagement by the state government.

”I am not here to criticize individuals. My target is the government’s management of these Health Centres,” Basaiawmoit stated firmly.

According to the VPP Chief, the Mawiong CHC case is just the tip of the iceberg. He outlined two non-negotiable requirements for a functioning healthcare system — Manpower overhaul and modern equipment.

According to him, massive vacancies must be filled immediately. Without the “required strength of staff,” these centers are nothing more than empty buildings.

He said, it isn’t just about people; it’s about tools. Basaiawmoit urged the government to provide high-quality medical equipment to ensure residents receive the care they deserve.

The VPP President suggested that the government’s failure is so obvious that further discussion is almost a waste of time.

”The reality of these centers speaks for itself. There is no need for more debates or long-winded talk,” he said. “If the government cannot provide the doctors and the tools, there is nothing left to discuss.”

With the healthcare crisis now front and center in state politics, all eyes are on the government to see if they will rise to the challenge or let the system continue to deteriorate.
