Woman’s Lifeless Body Found Stuffed inside Plastic Sack in Drain Between Nongrah-Lapalang

Investigators have already identified suspects in connection with the crime, and further action is underway.

SHILLONG: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of concern across the city, the lifeless body of a woman was recovered from a drain between Nongrah Lummarboh and Lapalang on Monday morning.

According to police, the body was found stuffed inside a plastic sack by local residents, who immediately alerted authorities. Personnel rushed to the scene and initiated a detailed investigation.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (East Khasi Hills), Vivek Syiem, said the information was first received from residents of the area. Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased is likely to be 39-year-old woman, who had been reported missing since March 20.

The deceased was a resident of Shillong and originally hailed from West Jaintia Hills district.

The police have pointed to Kennedy Khongsit as the primary suspect. Khongsit recently made headlines after being arrested by police in connection with the murder of a 7-year-old boy in the Nongrah Lummyrboh area.

“We have gathered several witnesses and evidence that link Kennedy Khongsit to this incident. Although the investigation is still ongoing, we strongly suspect his involvement in taking the life of this woman,” the SP stated.

Following the discovery, officers from the Special Cell, along with a Forensic Team, arrived at the scene to collect evidence.

The body, which had begun to decompose, has been sent to NEIGRIHMS Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

“The police are awaiting a detailed report from the doctors and have promised that they will not spare those responsible. The investigation is moving forward to clarify the motive behind this murder,” added the SP.

Family members of the missing woman also arrived at the scene and assisted in the identification process.

Police have confirmed that the case is being treated as a murder and further action is underway.
