SHILLONG: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira has announced that the State Government is actively preparing a new dedicated venue to host various festivals in the future, which will be located outside of Shillong city.
The Minister informed the press today that the move aims to shift major event hosting away from the state capital in the years to come.
”The new venue for conducting various festivals will be located outside Shillong city. Currently, this site is under construction, which is why the Cherry Blossoms Festival 2025 had to be held at the J.N. Stadium, Polo, Shillong,” stated Minister Shira.
Addressing the recently concluded Cherry Blossoms Festival 2025, Minister Shira termed the event a “success”, citing a massive turnout.
”I say that the Cherry Blossoms Festival 2025 was fruitful because the event witnessed a huge influx of people, including tourists from outside Meghalaya and even outside India,” he stated.
When asked for attendance figures, the Minister admitted he did not have the exact count of attendees, including tourists, but added, “I will ask for a report from the officers and will inform the figures to you later.”
The Tourism Minister also noted that the Government accepts the criticisms raised regarding the decision to host the event at the Polo grounds.
”Criticism will always be there, whether you do good or you do bad. We do not blame the critics; rather, we accept the criticisms,” he affirmed.
