Another chilling murder case surfaces in Meghalaya; man ‘kills’ wife, hides body for 3 days

SHILLONG | Another bone-chilling murder case has emerged in Meghalaya after a 24-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her husband at Nongrah Nonglum Brei, Shillong.

The the lifeless body of the woman, identified as Priya Khongstia, was found in her rented home at Nongrah Nonglum Brei, three days after the murder. It is believed that the crime was committed sometime between May 25 and May 28, 2025.

In this connection, police have arrested the husband – 25-year-old Donald Sohtun.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills District, Vivek Syiem confirmed the arrest of Donald Sohtun in connection with the murder of his wife, Priya Khongstia.

“The body of the woman was found after three days, and the forensic team also visited the crime scene. The weapon used to murder the woman was a stone, which had been thrown nearby,” he said.

The K9 unit tracked an item belonging to the victim and recovered the stone used by Donald to kill her, which he had thrown away after committing the crime.

Syiem said that the K9 unit had detected the scent on the stone, confirming it as the murder weapon. The police are preparing to file the charge sheet soon.

He also stated that the victim’s family had lodged an FIR the day after the murder. The killing allegedly resulted from an argument that escalated after the husband accused his wife of having an affair. The argument turned heated, leading to the murder during the night hours.
