SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Morcha has strongly condemned the alleged racial abuse faced by three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi and called for urgent steps to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of people from the North East.
Speaking to reporters, BJP Mahila Morcha Meghalaya Pradesh President Arena Hynniewta said that a formal letter would be sent to State Mahila Morcha presidents and authorities in Delhi, urging immediate action to protect North East citizens from discrimination and harassment.
Hynniewta said the incident reflects the persistent challenges faced by students and working professionals from the region in other parts of the country. She stressed that while every citizen has the constitutional right to live, work, and study anywhere in India, they must be guaranteed security and respect.
She added that such incidents weaken the confidence of people from the North East and urged both central and state governments to adopt proactive measures to safeguard their rights.
The BJP Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Morcha, she said, will continue raising awareness and working closely with authorities to ensure a safer environment for residents and students from the region.
Meanwhile, BJP Meghalaya State Mahila Morcha Vice President Geeta Sarin also strongly criticised Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his conduct at the recent India AI Impact Summit.
Sarin alleged that the Congress leadership must act responsibly and claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s remarks at the international forum were inappropriate. She stated that internal matters should be discussed and resolved within the country rather than being raised on global platforms, as such actions could adversely affect India’s image.
She further alleged that the conduct of Congress leaders had lowered the dignity of the nation and urged opposition leaders to refrain from such practices in the future.
Emphasising the need for responsible leadership, Sarin said that political differences must be resolved through constructive dialogue and democratic processes within the country. She added that leaders from both ruling and opposition parties must uphold dignity, decorum, and accountability in their public conduct.
