Large cache of anti-aircraft ammunition discovered in Garo Hills

Police conducted the operation in a bamboo grove near Santogre village, within the jurisdiction of Salmanpara Police Station.

SHILLONG: Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of police personnel from Salmanpara and Ampati Police Stations under South West Garo Hills district conducted a search operation on Tuesday and recovered a cache of ammunition.

Police conducted the operation in a bamboo grove near Santogre village, within the jurisdiction of Salmanpara Police Station.

According to a press release issued by the Superintendent of Police of South West Garo Hills, Vikash Varma, the police unearthed 55 suspected live anti-aircraft ammunition buried in the bamboo grove during the operation.

Police seized the recovered ammunition on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, following prescribed legal procedures. Police have launched further investigations to trace the source of the ammunition and to identify those involved in the illegal activity.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the public to share any information related to miscreants engaged in unlawful activities with the nearest police station. The identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and suitable rewards will be offered.
