BJP Meghalaya Writes to Sunil Deodhar Seeking Retraction Over Alleged Anti-Christian Remarks

The state BJP unit has urged Deodhar to retract his statements and issue a public apology, stating that doing so would help restore harmony.

SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya unit has written to Sunil Deodhar, Founder of My Home India, urging him to retract his recent remarks allegedly made against the Christian community during an Indigenous Faith Forum held in Pynter, Pynursla subdivision in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

Wankitbok Poshna, State General Secretary of BJP Meghalaya Pradesh, expressed “deep concern” and “immeasurable anguish” over statements reportedly made by Deodhar during his speech in Meghalaya.

According to the letter, the remarks were perceived as biased against Christians, with allegations that the Holy Bible and the name of Jesus Christ were mocked during the address. The communication stated that such comments had deeply hurt not only the Christian community in Meghalaya but also those who uphold the principles of interfaith harmony and equality.

The letter emphasised that while indigenous traditions such as Seng Khasi and Niam Tre must be preserved, religious faith remains a personal choice and should not be publicly ridiculed. It further highlighted that respect for all religions and equality among faiths are core national values.

The BJP leader also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that he has consistently emphasised inclusive governance and respect for all faiths.

Citing Deodhar’s stature as a senior member associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and a former National Secretary of the BJP, the letter stated that such remarks could undermine unity and mutual respect in a diverse country like India.

The state BJP unit has urged Deodhar to retract his statements and issue a public apology, stating that doing so would help restore harmony and reaffirm commitment to inclusivity and respect for all faiths

As of now, there has been no official response from Deodhar regarding the letter.
