SHILLONG: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, today, launched the City Beautification Drive at Mawlai Mawroh.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, said that the City Beautification Drive is a continuation of the efforts of the government through the Urban Affairs department and the municipalities to make the cities and towns of the state clean, green, safe and beautiful.
“I am happy to see that our efforts are moving in the right direction with the active participation of the communities and localities,” he said.

Referring to the previous meeting of the government with the leaders of the government with Rangbah Shnongs and different stakeholders of the society on the urban beautification project wherein a lot of localities had raised the need for CCTVs in their localities, the Chief Minister said, “As a follow up of that meeting I am happy to inform that today we are inaugurating the CCTV system and out of the 45 localities that are shortlisted in the first phase about 25 localities have been completed and the other 20 locations will be completed soon.”
He also informed that the installation of CCTVs and street lights is a continous process and more locations will be taken up in the second phase.
The Chief Minister also stated that it is very important for the communities and the government to work together to bring about a visible and tangible transformation.
“There is nothing such as a small or a big development project and even the smallest change that we make can make a big difference and impact in the overall process of development,” he said.

He further said that governance becomes more effective when there is interaction and communication at the grassroots and opened the floor for interaction and discussion where headmen of various localities of Shillong highlighted their localities’ needs for street lights, CCTVs, parking spaces, footpaths for pedestrians, water supply, clogged drains, etc.
The Chief Minister also distributed the Beautification Grants to the localities and also inaugurated the CCTV installation for Mawlai Mawroh. Later, he also visited Mawlai Iewrynghep.
