New Meghalaya Assembly Hall on Track for June 2026 Completion

The Speaker reaffirmed that once the main hall is completed, Assembly sessions can be convened at the new complex immediately thereafter.

SHILLONG: Amidst steady progress on the New Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Building at Mawdiangdiang, a comprehensive review meeting was held on Monday to evaluate the ongoing construction, address critical execution challenges, and reaffirm the completion timeline for the main Assembly Hall.

The meeting, held in the Conference Room of the Assembly Secretariat at Khyndailad, was chaired by Speaker Thomas A. Sangma and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong.

Following the extensive review, Speaker Sangma stated that the timeline for the completion of the main Assembly Hall remains firmly set for June 2026.

“I am happy to share that the meeting was very productive. With these regular review meetings, we are able to monitor progress closely and identify what needs to be done as the construction moves forward,” Sangma said. He emphasized that the regular monthly review mechanism has been pivotal in enhancing oversight and ensuring steady advancement of work.

The Speaker reaffirmed that once the main hall is completed, Assembly sessions can be convened at the new complex immediately thereafter.

Demonstrating a hands-on approach to monitoring the project, Sangma also informed attendees that he will conduct an onsite inspection of the project on December 11 to personally assess the pace and quality of construction work.

The review highlighted a collaborative approach to the project’s timely delivery, with participation from senior officials of the Finance Department, Parliamentary Affairs Department, PWD (Buildings), NIC Meghalaya, and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat, along with Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons.
