SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has expressed satisfaction following a “productive” meeting with the state government, during which Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma promised to protect the rights and livelihoods of all SSA teachers in Meghalaya.
MSSASA President Aristotle Rymbai reported that the fruitful discussion included the Chief Minister, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, and senior department officials.
Rymbai highlighted a critical point of assurance from the CM: “As you know that the funding for SSA teachers will cease in the year 2026, we are happy that the Chief Minister has assured to safeguard the SSA teaching profession.”
Furthermore, addressing the long-pending demand for higher remuneration, the Chief Minister pledged to implement a New Pay Structure for all SSA teachers and 4th teachers.
“We are satisfied with today’s meeting,” concluded Mr. Rymbai. “We will inform the public about the detailed discussion once we are able to hold a meeting of the teachers again, which will be soon.”
Notably, there are 3,332 SSA Schools across Meghalaya that have decided to hand over management to the State Government. Out of these, 3,034 are schools managed by the villages or Community Schools, and 298 are private schools that receive aid from the government (Private Aided Schools).
