Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong

SHILLONG: Meghalaya District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister Prestone Tynsong has clarified that the extension of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections is due to two key administrative processes: the ongoing completion of constituency delimitation and the finalization of a segregated electoral roll.

Tynsong explained that the delimitation committee, now in its final stages, will soon submit its report to the District Council for approval.

Once passed by the GHADC house, the report will be sent to the Governor for formal assent before new boundaries can be implemented.

He further noted that the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls will be published on October 26.

The GHADC will then use the SIR to construct its voter list, with Returning Officers tasked to systematically segregate tribal and non-tribal voters, as required by recent amendments.

Tynsong assured that once gubernatorial approval for the delimitation and the complete segregation of voter rolls are achieved, the government will promptly announce the GHADC election dates.
