“Don’t Meddle with Our People”: KSU Blasts BJP’s Sunil Deodhar Over Religious Remarks

The KSU would vehemently oppose any attempt by outsiders to fracture the long-standing communal harmony of the Khasi people.

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has issued a stern warning to RSS and BJP leader Sunil Deodhar following controversial statements he allegedly made against the Christian faith.

KSU President, Lambokstarwell Marngar, lashed out at the leader, asserting that the union will not remain a silent spectator to outside interference.

The controversy erupted after a video of Deodhar speaking at a gathering in Pynter village began circulating on social media.

His remarks, described by many as “provocative” and “anti-Christian,” sparked widespread public outrage across the state.

Marngar stated firmly, “Do not come and meddle with our community. The union will not stand by and watch.”

The KSU President clarified that while the union does not typically involve itself in religious discourse, it will act when religion is used as a tool to divide the Khasi people.

“The KSU does not speak about religion; it speaks about the community (Jaitbynriew),” Marngar emphasized, noting that a Khasi is a Khasi regardless of their religious affiliation.

“The unity of our people is our top priority. We will not allow any force to use religion to create divisions or destroy the identity we have built,” Marngar added.

The union leader urged the local population to remain vigilant and protect their mindsets from being influenced or “bought” by external forces.

He reiterated that the KSU would vehemently oppose any attempt by outsiders to mislead the public or fracture the long-standing communal harmony of the Khasi people.
