SHILLONG: In a stunning admission that rips the lid off the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) internal stability, party leader Dr. Mukul Sangma has publicly acknowledged a crisis of confidence among his own ranks.
The former Chief Minister confessed that senior colleagues and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) members are grappling with a “political dilemma” and “confusion,” with some openly asking for permission to defect.
The Defection Drama: Independents and New Camps?
Dr. Sangma dropped the political bombshell, revealing that distinguished TMC GHADC members have approached him to discuss exploring options like contesting the upcoming council elections as an Independent or jumping ship to a “new political entity”.
“It is a fact that some of the distinguish colleagues of mine… have ask me… whether they should be looking at option to contest as independent or as probably look at some other new dispensation,” Sangma revealed.
This unprecedented public disclosure confirms the intense pressure and uncertainty facing the TMC, a party that made a dramatic entry into Meghalaya politics. Sangma squarely blames opposing forces for trying to destabilize the party by painting it with a “racial” brush—a tactic he vehemently condemns.
War Cry for GHADC: TMC Prepares for all-out battle!
Despite the internal tremors, the party leadership is digging in! Sangma declared a GHADC election war!
The TMC will definitely field candidates in the GHADC, and the process for applications for nominations will begin immediately. More dramatically, Sangma hinted at a major pre-poll alliance!
The Big Alliance? The TMC will look for “like-minded parties” across all 29 constituencies to forge a formidable front against the incumbent forces.
The goal is nothing less than the “rebuilding GHADC, restoration of its pride and glory,” by safeguarding the mandate of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Sangma launched a scathing attack on the current dispensation, accusing them of reducing the GHADC to a failed institution and acting with an intent “not in sync with the intent of the population.”
Target 2028
In a message of defiance to all political opponents who he claims are “after TMC,” Dr. Sangma declared that the party is withstanding the onslaught. He set the ultimate prize, saying the current GHADC fight is just a major stepping stone towards the 2028 Assembly Elections.
The political landscape in Garo Hills is now a volatile mix of uncertainty, internal dissent, and the promise of a major alliance, guaranteeing a fierce and exciting battle for control of the GHADC.
