SHILLONG: The MDC of Laban–Mawprem Constituency, Ricky Shullai, along with the Raid Laban Dorbar Pyllun, representatives from the KHADC, and Myntri of Hima Mylliem, today, carried out a joint inspection of the proposed site for the construction of a new road connecting Lum Shillong to View Point.
Speaking to reporters, Ricky Shullai emphasized that the proposed project is crucial for improving access to the Shillong Peak View Point, as the existing route passes through a military area, which often creates difficulties when the road is closed due to security or emergency situations.
He further stated that the new road would also benefit local shopkeepers along the Lum Shillong-View Point stretch by boosting tourism and enhancing their economic opportunities.
Shullai described the joint inspection as “highly productive,” He informed that the Myntri of Hima Mylliem has agreed to provide land for the project and will soon issue an official communication to the KHADC.
He also said that once the approval is granted, the Raid Laban Dorbar Pyllun will approach the State Government to seek funding for construction of the road.
He also highlighted that the new road would not only strengthen tourist connectivity but also ease traffic congestion within Shillong city by offering an alternative route for commuters travelling between Laitkor, Mylliem, and Upper Shillong.
