Addressing the students and athletes, the minister said that every participant should feel proud for reaching the state-level competition, adding that they had already proved themselves as fighters and aspiring athletes determined to bring laurels to their families, schools, districts and the state. He reminded the participants that while winning medals may be temporary, discipline, character and sportsmanship would remain with them throughout their lives.

The minister expressed satisfaction at the growing participation and improved performances from districts beyond East Khasi Hills, which had traditionally dominated the competition. He noted that despite infrastructural challenges in the past, the government has significantly expanded sports facilities across Meghalaya under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

Shylla informed that artificial athletic tracks have already been developed in Shillong and Wahiajer, while similar projects are underway in Tura, Mawkyrwat, Baghmara and other districts. He informed that over 40,000 youths have already been screened using modern technology and talent assessment methods.

Referring to Meghalaya’s recent sporting achievements, Shylla said the state’s performance at the Khelo India Tribal Games had improved significantly, with Meghalaya moving from 29th to 13th position. He expressed confidence that the state could compete among the top three in the coming years.
