SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Thursday officially welcomed former Nongkrem legislator Lambor Malngiang into the party, further strengthening its base in the area.
The joining ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, and several party MLAs including Ampareen Lyngdoh, Gavin M. Mylliem, and Gabriel Wahlang, besides MDCs and other party leaders.
As part of the programme, the NPP also formally constituted its Nongkrem Block Committee, led by NPP East Khasi Hills District President Gavin M. Mylliem.
In his address, Malngiang said his decision to join the NPP stemmed from a genuine desire to contribute to the state’s growth and collective progress, not merely to contest elections. He added that during his tenure as MLA, people had witnessed the development projects he initiated, though he preferred to let his work speak for itself.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma hailed Malngiang as “a tall and dynamic leader of Nongkrem,” praising his commitment to the constituency’s development. Sangma said Malngiang’s entry into the NPP reflected public confidence in the party’s vision for progress and inclusive growth.
Reaffirming the party’s guiding principles, the Chief Minister highlighted the NPP’s emphasis on unity, cooperation, accountability, and mutual respect. He asserted that no other party operates with such coordination and purpose, adding that the NPP remains steadfast in resolving differences through dialogue and teamwork.
