SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government will introduce a formal resolution opposing uranium mining during the upcoming Autumn Session of the State Legislative Assembly, scheduled for August.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced this significant development on Friday.

Addressing the media, Chief Minister Sangma explained that the Assembly is constitutionally required to convene before August 27, as the Constitution of India mandates that no more than six months can elapse between two consecutive sessions.

This deadline necessitates a session before the specified date.

Confirming the government’s legislative agenda, Sangma stated that the anti-uranium mining resolution will definitely be brought forward in August.

He reiterated that the government is committed to introducing the resolution during the forthcoming Autumn Session, ensuring it is addressed within the constitutional timeframe.
