SHILLONG: In a decisive ruling on August 11, 2026, the Meghalaya High Court has quashed previous orders that suspended Ainam Manik Syiem, effectively clearing the way for his full reinstatement as the Syiem of Hima Mylliem.

The court set aside the disciplinary action enforced on May 22, 2026, restoring Syiem’s traditional leadership position.

Speaking to the media after the verdict, a visibly relieved Ainam Manik Syiem expressed profound satisfaction with the court’s judgment.

He extended heartfelt appreciation to his supporters, administrative staff, the Myntri Syiem, the Syiem Khynnah, and his legal team, with special thanks to his advisor and senior advocate who successfully argued his case.

Returning to his leadership role, Syiem signaled a new chapter focused on institutional harmony and collaborative governance.

He outlined his intention to foster a seamless working relationship with the District Council and higher administrative bodies.

Addressing long-standing debates over the customary financial arrangements of the Hima, Syiem clarified that Hima Mylliem has consistently fulfilled its monetary contributions to the District Council.

He explained that the much-discussed one-eighth share originates from a 1953 House Resolution which, while not a binding law, has always been honored by his office out of respect for historical ties—similar to the status of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) Resolution.

Looking ahead, Syiem acknowledged that human imperfections and administrative friction are inevitable, but emphasized his commitment to building an unbroken bridge of cooperation with the Executive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

He stressed that, regardless of political changes, Hima Mylliem remains dedicated to maintaining a transparent and productive partnership with the KHADC to ensure uninterrupted and effective administration across the territory.
