HNYF Issues Ultimatum to Polo Orchid Resort Over Alleged Illegal Security Agency in Sohra

Attention is fixed on how the resort management and the District Council will respond to the concerns raised by the HNYF.

SOHRA: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Sohra Circle has issued a one-week ultimatum to the management of Polo Orchid Resort to produce legal documentation for the security agency deployed at the resort or remove the agency from its premises.

The warning comes after an inspection conducted by HNYF leaders on February 26, during which they allegedly found that Security Intelligence Service (SIS) has been providing security services at the resort in Elaka Mawsmai, Sohra, without the required local authorisations.

According to the HNYF Sohra Circle, the inspection revealed several irregularities.

  • No Trading License: The security agency was allegedly operating without the mandatory trading license from the District Council.

  • No Village Authority Clearance: The agency had reportedly not obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local Dorbar Shnong.

  • Previous Complaints: The organisation claimed that SIS has faced earlier complaints related to labour disputes and unresolved medical claims currently under review by the Labour Department and the District Council.

HNYF Sohra Circle spokesperson Banjop Khongwir said that the presence of outside agencies operating without proper permissions undermines local authorities and affects employment opportunities for local youth.

“These outside agencies have zero respect for our local authorities or the District Council. They sneak in illegally, snatching jobs away from our local youth and home-grown agencies. We won’t stand for it,” Khongwir stated.

The organisation has warned that if the resort management fails to produce the necessary permits within seven days, it will demand the immediate removal of the security agency from the premises.

The HNYF has also urged the District Council to take strict action against agencies operating without proper authorisation and called on Village Authorities (Dorbar Shnong) to remain vigilant against illegal operations in the Sohra region.

The situation is now being closely watched as the deadline approaches, with attention on how the resort management and the District Council will respond to the concerns raised by the HNYF.
