Meghalaya Border Forum Alleges Karbi Intimidation, ‘Eviction Plot’ in Block-I & II

The Chairman of the Forum has submitted a memorandum to the CM, demanding immediate intervention in the border dispute concerning the Block-I & II regions.

HBDRF Chairman, Chandame Sugnoh

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has raised serious allegations against the Karbi community, claiming there is a coordinated effort to force the Khasi-Pnar people out of the disputed Block-I & II areas through violence and high-handed tactics.

The HBDRF Chairman, Chandame Sugnoh, stated that continuous aggression by Karbi elements has compelled Khasi-Pnar families to flee their villages on three separate occasions in recent years, citing acts of terror and intimidation linked to Karbi militant groups.

The Chairman made these revelations on Thursday while submitting a memorandum to the State Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary. The petition demands immediate and serious intervention in the border dispute concerning the Block-I & II regions.

Allegations of ‘Enticement’

Sugnoh further alleged a shift in strategy by the opposing side. “The Karbis are now using tactics of enticement by offering relief and assistance schemes from the Assam Government and the District Council authorities to the Khasi-Pnar residents,” he said.

He issued a strong appeal to the Khasi-Pnar people residing in Block-I & II not to be deceived by these offers, calling them a “trick to mislead” them.

”This is the time for struggle. We, the leaders, are working hard to negotiate with the Assam Government to swiftly finalise the resolution and demarcation of the boundary,” Sugnoh said, reaffirming the Forum’s commitment to the cause of the residents.
