Hoi Kiw Chicken Pickle: Local Brand Targets National Market After MoU Signing

Industry observers said the initiative is likely to encourage more local entrepreneurs to adopt quality-driven manufacturing practices

SHILLONG: In a boost to Meghalaya’s food processing sector, S&E Ventures, a homegrown FMCG venture, has signed a Contract Manufacturing Agreement with Angie Shirhabs, a startup incubated under PRIME Meghalaya, for the production of premium chicken pickle.

Under the agreement, Angie Shirhabs will undertake manufacturing operations, ensuring strict adherence to proprietary recipes, quality benchmarks, packaging norms, and food safety standards laid down by S&E Ventures. The brand owner will oversee branding, marketing, and distribution, positioning the product in the premium processed food segment.

The product will be marketed under the brand name “Hoi Kiw,” inspired by a traditional Khasi chant symbolising pride, identity, and cultural heritage. The brand aims to promote local flavours while maintaining high standards of hygiene and quality.

Officials said the partnership is designed to address gaps in the local pickle market, which is currently dominated by unlicensed and non-compliant products. In contrast, “Hoi Kiw” chicken pickle will be fully compliant with regulations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and manufactured under strict hygiene protocols, ensuring consumer safety and reliability.

As an incubated startup under PRIME Meghalaya, Angie Shirhabs has received mentorship, technical guidance, and ecosystem support to scale production in line with regulatory and quality standards. The collaboration is being seen as a strong example of incubation-led commercialisation in the state’s food processing ecosystem.

The first production cycle under the agreement is expected to begin shortly, marking the start of a long-term partnership aimed at expanding market reach across regional and national platforms.

Industry observers said the initiative is likely to encourage more local entrepreneurs to adopt compliant and quality-driven manufacturing practices, contributing to Meghalaya’s growing FMCG and food processing sector.
