SHILLONG: Amid swirling political speculation in Meghalaya, senior NPP legislator and East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh came out strongly on Wednesday to dismiss rumours of a possible political shift, reaffirming her unwavering commitment to the National People’s Party (NPP).

In a forthright and transparent statement, Lyngdoh said her political journey has been guided by discipline, integrity, and clean public service, leaving no room for backdoor politics or covert realignments.

Addressing reports suggesting she may be considering a move to another political camp, Lyngdoh made it clear that she does not believe in changing loyalties behind closed doors.

“I am NPP, and I stand by the discipline of my party. If there is ever a change in the future, I will be the first to inform the public directly,” she asserted.

She reminded her constituents that at no point in her political career has she shifted allegiance without first consulting the people who elected her, underscoring transparency as a core principle of her public life.

The veteran leader also rubbished claims of internal discord or a so-called “cold war” between her and the state leadership. Responding to speculation over her limited interactions with Cabinet Ministers, Lyngdoh attributed it to administrative pressures rather than political rifts.

“Ministers are deeply engaged in the heavy lifting of governance. Fewer meetings do not mean distance—it means work is being done,” she clarified.

Lyngdoh also addressed questions surrounding her not being part of the state Cabinet, making it clear that positions of power were never her primary motivation. She said her entry into politics was driven by the desire to serve people, not to accumulate titles or portfolios.

Referring to Meghalaya’s history of frequent party switching since 1972, Lyngdoh said she is determined to break that pattern by remaining focused on a clear and consistent developmental agenda.

“Not being in the Cabinet does not stop me from working. My responsibility is to complete pending projects and deliver on every promise made to my people,” she said.

Highlighting the need to mentor the next generation, Lyngdoh stressed that political discipline and respect for the public mandate are essential values for aspiring leaders.

She said loyalty to one’s oath and party is not a limitation but a strength that upholds democratic integrity.

Lyngdoh has also urged the public to disregard “fake news” and “baseless political whispers,” assuring that any major decision regarding her political future or the next election would be communicated directly by her, and only after seeking the trust and approval of her voters.
