NONGPOH: Acting on a direct tip-off from local residents, the Ri Bhoi district police successfully intercepted and destroyed a massive cache of illicit liquor hidden inside a roadside jungle in the Upgate Nongpoh area.
Following the operation, the district police shared a video of the disposal on social media, laced with a sharp message for bootleggers, stating that the party got cancelled before the invitations went out.
According to law enforcement officials, the operation was initiated immediately after receiving specific information from the local residents of Upgate Nongpoh regarding some unknown persons who had concealed the contraband in the dense foliage along the roadside.
Promptly responding to the alert, a team of officers and staff from the Nongpoh Police Station proceeded to the designated spot. Upon a thorough search of the area, the police personnel recovered approximately 250 litres of illicit liquor hidden deep within the roadside jungle.
The entire seized quantity of the illegal alcohol was destroyed on the spot by the police team, executed in the direct presence of local village leaders and members of the general public to ensure complete transparency.
