Khasi Students’ Union Elects New Leadership for 2026-29 Term Amid Massive Voter Turnout

The democratic process saw a massive participation of 4,967 KSU members representing over 480 units in Meghalaya.

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has officially elected its new leadership for the 2026-29 term following a high-turnout election held today.

The democratic process saw a massive participation of 4,967 members representing over 480 units, highlighting the union’s deep-rooted organizational strength as it marks 48 years of existence.

​Announcing the results, Election Commission Chairman Samuel Jyrwa expressed deep satisfaction at the enthusiasm shown by the youth. He noted that while winning is a milestone, the true essence of this journey is a lifelong commitment to serving the nation. Out of the 10 executive posts, three key positions were won unopposed.

Raymond Kharjana was elected as the President, Rueben Anderson Naijer as the General Secretary, and Pynkmenlang Sanmied as the Vice President, all without contest.

​The other newly elected leaders who emerged victorious in the contested categories include Assistant General Secretary Pynshailang Rani, Organizing Secretary Cleenstar Shabong, Education Secretary Alerick Kharjana, and Information and Publication Secretary Pynshaikupar M Dkhar. Joining them are Office Secretary Gary R Mawlieh, Sport and Culture Secretary Eric Anthony Nongkynrih, and Environment Secretary Shinning Kharbihkhiew. Certificates of recognition were handed out to all winners during the ceremony to formally validate their new leadership roles.

​In his maiden address as the President of the KSU Central Executive Committee (CEC), Raymond Kharjana expressed profound gratitude to the members and former leaders who have mentored the union. He clarified that the election was not a display of power but a procedural necessity to keep the organization functioning smoothly.

Kharjana emphasized that the strength of the KSU lies in the integrity of every individual member and expressed confidence that the union will only grow stronger as more youth step forward for the cause of the Ri (land) and the community.

​Regarding the future roadmap, the new President announced that consultations with various stakeholders will begin soon, followed by the induction of new members into the Executive Committee.

While acknowledging that the union cannot guarantee victory in every struggle, Kharjana vowed that the KSU would remain relentless. He promised that the union would never hesitate to confront issues affecting the indigenous community and would continue to serve as a bold voice for the people before the government and relevant authorities.
