NEW DELHI: In a coordinated operation, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit, in collaboration with the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER), successfully rescued two girls from the Khasi-Pnar community who had fallen victim to a human trafficking syndicate.
The victims, aged 15 and 18, hail from the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. According to reports, they were lured to the national capital by a local acquaintance from Meghalaya who currently works in Delhi. The girls were reportedly taken without the knowledge or consent of their parents, under the false pretext of securing employment as domestic helpers.
The Bait-and-Switch
Upon arriving in Delhi, the situation took a dark turn. Instead of domestic work, the girls were transported to a spa in Haryana, where they were allegedly coerced into the sex trade.
Fearing for their lives, the victims managed to make a secret phone call to their families. Their relatives immediately alerted the KSU Delhi Unit, who moved swiftly to involve the authorities.
The Rescue Operation
The KSU Delhi Unit partnered with SPUNER to track the girls’ location. A dedicated rescue team was dispatched to the site in Haryana, successfully liberating the victims from the facility.
The KSU has expressed its profound gratitude to the key officials and personnel who ensured the safety of the young women, including Sabrina, ARC Meghalaya House, for logistical coordination, Nabam Gungte, Joint CP, SPUNER, for his decisive leadership and the field rescue team: SI Ngalung Wung, ASI Naveen Kumar, HC Satish Kumar, and W/CT Lalrinhluni.
“This incident serves as a grave warning about the dangers our youth face when seeking employment outside the state,” said Marbiang Khongwir, President of the KSU Delhi Unit. “We urge parents and young people to remain vigilant against fraudulent job recruiters. The KSU remains committed to protecting the welfare of the Khasi community in Delhi-NCR.”
The Union is currently working with government authorities to provide necessary counseling for the survivors. Arrangements are being made to safely escort them back to their families in Meghalaya.
