SHILLONG: In a bid to address long-standing developmental deficits, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today submitted its “20-Point Charter of Demands” to Ranikor MLA Pius Marweiñ.
Beyond the overarching policy demands of the union, the interaction focused heavily on the severe lack of development in the Ranikor region, particularly in the villages surrounding the mineral-rich Domiasiat belt.
The KSU pointed out that despite the area being a focal point for national resource interests, the local population has been neglected and abandoned by the government for years.

The union discussed the urgent need for essential infrastructure that the people of these border areas desperately require, including proper healthcare centers, educational institutions, and reliable drinking water supply systems.
The KSU argued that while the Atomic Mineral Department (AMD) and its agents are actively roaming the area to push for uranium exploration, the state has failed to provide basic civic amenities to the residents.
By bringing these core livelihood and developmental issues to the local lawmaker, the KSU emphasized that safeguarding the region requires both resisting predatory land acquisition by outsiders and ensuring that the government immediately delivers the fundamental rights of health, education, and water to the people of Ranikor.
