
Local start-ups and winemakers from Meghalaya received the much-needed platform and boost to their respective businesses, thanks to SIAL India 2024 – India’s Biggest Food Exhibition that took place recently in New Delhi.
The local entrepreneurs, comprising three millet-based startups and three winemakers were selected by the Meghalaya Farmer’s Empowerment Commission (MFEC) to participate in the event that provided a premier platform for the food and beverage industry to showcase their innovations and forge valuable industry connections.
The wine-makers included == Dajied Shabong from Kynjai Winery, Pecindha K Sangma from ASAME Winery and Jeremy Foster Nongrum from La-Monte Winery; meanwhile, the millet-based startups included — Bibhudutta Sahu from HQ Inspired, Suklin Dohling & Delina Rani from Marbin Food Processing and Waniaijop K Lynshing & Rimonlang Shylla from Mulieh Enterprise.
SIAL India is part of the world’s largest food innovation network, drawing industry professionals from 160 countries since it’s inception. It provides a premier platform for companies to showcase their products, connect with buyers, and explore business opportunities. SIAL India is known for its extensive B2B focus, Hosted Buyer Program, and ability to draw exhibitors from over 40 countries for this edition.
Participation in this event enables the Northeast-based companies to elevate their brand visibility, explore collaboration opportunities, and potentially strike lucrative deals. This exposure visit was possible with the inter-agency cooperation between NECTAR, InterAd Agency & the MFEC.

“SIAL India is an excellent opportunity for our local food startups and winemakers to gain visibility and forge valuable connections in the global food industry,” said B K Sohliya, Executive Advisor & Chairman i/c of the Meghalaya Farmer’s Empowerment Commission. “We encourage our entrepreneurs to leverage this platform to grow their businesses,” he added.
Furthermore, he said SIAL India provided a fantastic opportunity for the local entrepreneurs to present their unique products to a global audience positioning the startups and winemakers strategically to capitalize on the platform to grow their businesses and make valuable industry connections.

Meghalaya is ready for business, so let’s work towards bringing the business to Meghalaya for agri-preneurs, startups, processing units and farmers with visible deliverables for all stakeholders.”
