SHILLONG: A man identified as Shanbor Rani, a resident of Nongmynsong Lumshyiap, was allegedly abducted and brutally murdered at Mawdiangdiang on Sunday night.
Rani’s body was discovered by the roadside along the road leading to Larity, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, on Monday morning.
Passers-by found the body, which was reportedly covered in blood, with the face severely disfigured and unrecognisable.
According to police sources, six unidentified individuals allegedly forced three men into a taxi (registration number ML 05 AH 3636) and took them towards Mawbeh.

Rani was reportedly stabbed multiple times and succumbed to his injuries.
Another victim sustained serious injuries and was shifted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) for treatment.
The third man reportedly escaped by jumping out of the vehicle and was later found by BSF personnel, who arranged for his medical attention.
Rani’s body was sent to NEIGRIHMS for a post-mortem examination.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that the group was initially involved in a clash at Pynthor before being abducted and driven to the Mawkasiang forest in Rani’s own vehicle. While two men managed to fight off their captors and escape, Rani sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Police confirmed that Rani was a habitual offender with a history of arrests in previous murder cases and drug-related offenses under the NDPS Act. Investigators have registered a case and are collecting forensic evidence and witness statements to determine if the attack was linked to illicit drug transactions or long-standing personal rivalries.
